Consider applying for this Student Leader Fellowship, jointly offered by the LBGT PA and PAs for Latino Health (PALH) Caucuses.

Purpose

Student Leader Fellows (SLF) are out and openly self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or gender diverse PA students of Latino/a/x or Hispanic heritage that are chosen through a competitive process to participate in a 12-month fellowship to foster leadership and professional development within the PA profession. The jointly-sponsored fellowship program began in 2020 in the hopes that, together, we can support leaders in medicine reflecting the communities we serve. 

Eligibility

Qualified applicants for the SLF must be openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or gender diverse PA students of Latino/a/x or Hispanic heritage enrolled in an accredited PA program at the time of the application deadline.

Applicants in either the didactic or clinical phase of PA education are eligible, and an anticipated graduation date prior to the end of the SLF term does not disqualify the applicant. PAs completing postgraduate training programs are not considered students for the purposes of the SLF and are ineligible to apply.

Applicants are encouraged to join the LBGT PA and PALH Caucuses as student members, and accepted fellows must have active memberships.

Fellowship Term

July 1 of the current year through June 30 of the following year.

Deadline

Submissions are due Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:59PM ET.  Late applications will not be considered.

Opportunities

• Participate in a self-proposed fellowship project during the term
• Attend the AAPA Conference in May (of the following year) and participate with Caucus activities and the AAPA House of Delegates
• Join LBGT PA Board of Directors monthly meeting s (virtually)
• Serve as an ambassador of fellowship for future students
• Make a difference for the PA profession and our LGBT communities

Honorarium

A $1000 travel stipend is available to offset the cost of attending the annual AAPA Conference (distributed at the conference). Failure to attend the conference results in forfeiture of the stipend.

Applicant Interest Session

An SLF applicant interest session will be held at 8:00 pm ET on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 online using Zoom.  Attendance at the interest session is not required, but strongly encouraged.
